I still remember one of those public street rallies that you're not supposedly not meant to be at, I happened to be the lead shepherd (inadvertent) for my gang of bougies (who was interested since they heard of the one the year before; and some of them were uh... over prepared) and at one point one of them was like, man this is boring, and I swerved and said to them, "IT'S A GOOD THING THAT IT'S BORING"
Anyway they got their wish later. The one with the gas mask got his money's worth.
@gombang oh he was already he's also a middle-class Malaysian, which is like a Singaporean, there's a lot of messaging about safety and how this is why unlike other countries we don't do public demos soooo... Lol. I was like, ok I got my towel, and bottled water... Good shoes... (To be fair it's because I have a different strategy when it comes to where to be located, and I got a nose for trouble. Managed to get them - who was really mostly touristy - to safety past all the crowds just before the water cannons came on, it's just that the metro was locked XD so he managed to make his mask useful after all but nasib not in the thick of it lol)
